ALTERNATE SITE SURVEY
With the growth of the disaster recovery industry, our survey of alternative site vendors has also grown. The comparative matrix on these following pages were compiled directly from responses to a set of surveys sent out to disaster recovery vendors.
The categories address some of the issues pertinent to selecting an alternative site. The survey is not intended to give you all the criteria to select a site, but rather to determine which companies may be best suited to your company's needs.
An alternative site selection process only begins with examining the survey; the most important step is discussing your needs with a representative from those companies that interest you.
The survey addresses these questions:
Location: all locations where a hot site, cold site or office work recovery site is located.
Host Mainframe & Midrange Computers/DASD Units/Tape Drives/Frontenal Processors/Dataline/Voice Lines: the equipment listed in these columns are available at some or all hot site locations. This information should be used to determine if a company supports your type of systems. Responses from different companies may not be directly comparable; contact a company representative for complete computer and communications configurations.
Mobile Site: indicates availability of a computer-ready cold-site which can be transported to a desired location. Size and delivery time are also listed.
Cold Site: indicates availability of a data processing site that is not pre-equipped with computer systems. Equipment and resources must be installed in such a facility to duplicate the critical business functions of an organization. Additional information details how well the site is equipped.
Office Work Space: indicates availability of work areas for end-users. Office work space is usually used for critical business operations that are not data processing intensive, such as customer service. Available equipment is also listed.

The survey is in a 2-page spread so the files on the right correspond to the files to the left of them in the table below. They may be a little difficult to follow so I have added another company column on the right file in an attempt to clear up any confusion.
