New Study Reveals
State of Business Risk Preparedness in America
JOHNSTON, R.I. – More than one-third of the nation’s leading
companies report they are not sufficiently prepared to protect top revenue
sources and have room for improvement, according to the 2003 Protecting
Value Study. In addition, 100 percent of the companies surveyed report

on earnings, with 28 percent stating such an event would threaten business
continuity.
The study, conducted by commercial and industrial property insurer FM
Global, the Financial Executives Research Foundation and the National
Association of Corporate Treasurers (NACT), polled nearly 400 CFOs,
treasurers and risk managers at both U.S. and international companies
from a broad variety of industries.
The National Association of Corporate Treasurers (NACT) is a professional
association of treasurers from America’s leading corporations
of all sizes. Its purpose is to facilitate the exchange of information

Hard Drive Duplication Made Easy With Ezcopyt From Arco
HOLLYWOOD, Fla. – Network administrators, IT managers and service
technicians now have an inexpensive, lightning-fast and simple to use
solution for duplicating entire hard drives. It’s called EzCOPYT,
the latest release from Arco Data Protection Systems, a leading provider

Networks Announce BC Solution
HOPKINTON, Mass. – EMC Corporation, LEGATO Systems, Inc. and Nortel
Networks has announced a highly available enterprise business continuity
solution that enables multiple data centers to act as one to help keep
businesses running. In the event of a disaster, transactions are automatically

EnvoyWorldWide
Aids In Emergency Response Efforts At Topoff2 Event
CHICAGO, Ill. – TOPOFF2 is the most comprehensive terrorism response
exercise ever undertaken in the United States. Mandated by Congress,
this nation-wide weapons of mass destruction exercise series is designed
to provide training for federal, state and local responders in response
tactics to terrorist attacks across the United States.
To support the TOPOFF2 event in Chicago, EnvoyWorldWide, a Massachusetts-based
notification services vendor, served as the core communications mechanism
for the city’s Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
At the onset of the drill, the hospital utilized EnvoyWorldWide’s
real-time notification services to reach out to and connect its Response
Team via a conference call to make the hospital’s initial, critical
response decisions. Based on the outcome of the Response Team conference
call, EnvoyWorldWide’s services were used to disseminate status
updates, organize emergency strategy conference calls, and inform and
mobilize a fleet of over 1,000 doctors, nurses, general hospital personnel
and security staff.
The simulated terrorist attacks began in Chicago on May 11 and continued
throughout the week. More information on EnvoyWorldWide, visit www.envoyworldwide.com.
Sony Extends 500gb
Sait Technology To New Branded Drives
PHOENIX, Ariz. – Sony Electronics is raising the stakes for high-capacity
backup with a line of branded tape drives based on its SAIT-1 format.
The 500GB native capacity of the new SAIT-1 drives will exceed that
of any other tape drive currently on the market by at least two-fold,
making them an ideal choice for both server and network backup. With
the ability to store up to 1.3 TB of compressed data on a half-inch
tape cartridge, SAIT-1 will be the first standalone drives to break
the 1TB capacity barrier. Sustained data transfer rates for the drives
will reach up to 78 MB per second (30 MB/sec native) for efficient data
recording and fast data recovery.

‘Electronic Alcatraz’ Goes Live
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – DataChambers, a new company committed to
preserving its clients’ data and keeping their businesses running
despite any kind of natural or man-made disaster, became operational
on March 17 in the site of the former AT&T complex.
A few other companies in the United States and abroad offer data storage
and business continuity services, but no company can match the level
of security and amenities of DataChambers, said Lawrence Boening, president
and chief operating officer. “DataChambers is in the business
of preserving business. We are well-equipped to handle any emergency
or disaster that could place clients’ information and operations
in jeopardy. You might call us a kind of ‘electronic Alcatraz’.”
Security features include armed, military-trained guards, data storage
in an underground “bunker” with hidden cameras throughout,
and biometric palm scanners for access to some areas. In addition, the
building provides 80,000 square feet of office space – with room
for expansion – where entire companies could move their operations
if they had to evacuate their own buildings, Boening said.
The company was conceptualized in 2001, and it opened with more than
20 clients already on board. For obvious security reasons, DataChambers
is bound by contract not to reveal the names of most clients. The company
presently employs 18 people and expects to grow to about 130 employees
within the next three years.

Spinnaker Offers
Integrated Ata Disk Storage Option For Enterprise Nas Cluster
PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Spinnaker Networks, the leading developer of next
generation NAS storage solutions, has announced that its SpinServer
3300 NAS platform now supports economical ATA disk storage, allowing
customers to deploy cost-correct storage for applications such as on-line

solution. With 2 terabyte capacity increments, customers can expand
to larger configurations with a street price of less than $.01 per megabyte
and achieve an on-line ATA storage option with Spinnaker for less than
the cost of competitive near-line storage offerings.
Adding economical ATA storage to a SpinServer cluster provides two key
advantages compared to conventional NAS servers utilizing ATA disks:
dynamic allocation through non-disruptive data movement, and more efficient
storage management by eliminating “NAS islands.”

State Street’s
Kansas City Office Relies On CNT To Provide Complete, Cost-Effective
Tape Vaulting Solution
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., - CNT (Nasdaq: CMNT), the global expert in storage
networking solutions, has announced that State Street, a world leader
in financial services for institutional investors, utilized CNT’s
consulting and integration expertise, as well as the newly-announced
tape pipelining technology in their UltraNet Edge Storage Router platform
to provide a robust and efficient solution for disaster recovery and
backup in its Kansas City office. This solution helped the Kansas City
site realize immediate cost and business efficiencies in their storage
environment, and ensured that their critical data would be available
in the event of a disaster.
State Street leveraged CNT’s services organization to assist with
the design and implementation of an offsite tape vault at their existing
disaster recovery facility. The existing tape environment utilized VERITAS
NetBackup software to backup 1TB of data for a full backup. CNT customized
their NetBackup implementation for remote tape vaulting, and also provided
StorageTek tape libraries for both local backups in the primary data
center and remote backups with the new tape vaulting infrastructure.
This solution also automated the restore process, for faster, more secure
restores from either the local or remote tape systems.
