Perm-A-Store Announces New Turtle Shielded Mailers

TUCSON, AZ - David G. Leben, president of Wichita, KS-based Perm-A-Store, Inc., announced the addition of EMI-shielded containers to the TURTLE line of media storage transit containers.
"Electromagnetic interference (EMI) is coming to the forefront as a major contributor to data loss and errors on magnetic media," said Leben. "And in response to the industry's concerns we developed the SHIELDED TURTLE MAILER."
The SHIELDED TURTLE MAILER is a corrugated carton with an aluminum foil-laminated interior, and was designed to be the most effective and inexpensive product available for protecting all forms of magnetic media from EMI damage.


IBM & Software Information Services Enter Reseller Agreement

BELLEVUE, WA - IBM Storage Systems Division and Software Information Services, Inc. (SIS) announced a reseller agreement in which IBM will sell SIS’s MVS disaster recovery software products. Under the agreement, IBM will offer two of SIS’s software products - ABARS Manager and ASAP - through its North American sales channels.


ChubbCTF and the Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange Agree to Create the World’s First Contingency Trading Floor

NEW YORK, NY - Chubb Contingency Trading Facility (ChubbCTF) and the Coffee, Sugar & Cocoa Exchange, Inc. (CSCE) signed an agreement to build the world’s first contingency trading floor at ChubbCTF’s Long Island facility in Queens, NY. Construction of the contingency pit began in June, with the backup trading floor ready to host the CSCE’s traders by September. The CSCE will be able to continue trading in its futures and options markets at the ChubbCTF facility should the CSCE’s current trading facility at the World Trade Center become inoperable or unsafe.


San Leandro wins top FEMA Service Award for Nation’s Best Emergency Preparedness Effort

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) presented its Outstanding Public Service award to the City of San Leandro, CA for its program to reduce damage from earthquake and other major emergencies. FEMA Director James L. Witt presented the award to the cities mayor saying that San Leandro “exemplifies a commitment to (disaster) mitigation that is unmatched in this country.” The FEMA award represents the culmination of a series of honors and citations for the cities emergency preparedness program from various agencies and organizations.


SAFESITE Offers Safetrax and Tapetrax

BILLERICA, MA - Two new software products were released by SAFESITE Business Records Management Corporation, SAFETRAX and TAPETRAX. SAFETRAX is a user-friendly customized information tracking software that assists large and small companies in efficiently managing, tracking and locating all types of hard copy information. TAPETRAX is a Windows based PC program designed to assist a data center in the automation between onsite and offsite media libraries.


SunGard and DecisionOne to Partner in a New Service Offering

WAYNE, PA - SunGard Recovery Services, Inc. announced a partnership with DecisionOne, an independent provider of computer maintenance and technology support services in the U.S., that will provide SunGard’s customers with a new turnkey solution for their PC and local area network (LAN) disaster recovery needs. The new “QuickInstall” program is an extension of SunGard’s QuickShip offering that enables its subscribers to get large quantities of PC and LAN equipment shipped directly to any designated location at the time of a disaster or business disruption.


American Red Cross and Phillips Petroleum Create Unique Disaster Assistance Program

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - After the April 19th bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, Phillips Petroleum formed a partnership with the American Red Cross. Phillips pledged not only monetary funds, but also its manpower to implement a state-of-the-art program to provide training for local emergency responders and educate the public about emergency preparedness. From this, they designed two EmTrac mobile units. Em Trac units are self-contained mobile command centers housed in tractor-trailers. The emergency communications equipment and supplies inside will allow the Red Cross in Oklahoma to more efficiently and effectively respond to disasters.


BMC Software’s PATROL Product Suite to Manage Deutsche Bank’s Data and Applications

HOUSTON, TX - BMC Software’s German office announced that it has signed a contract with Deutsche Bank, the largest bank in Germany, for the use of BMC Software’s PATROL application management product suite across all its national and international branches. Systems administrators will use PATROL to centrally monitor, manage and control all of Deutsche Bank’s database systems and business-critical applications residing on more than 2,000 servers worldwide.


Panorama Software Announces ProView 1.5 Response Monitoring for TCP/IP and SNA Networks

WOODLAND HILLS, CA - Panorama Software announced the release of Pro View version 1.5 network performance management system. Pro View’s measurement of network performance is accomplished at the application layer, proactively obtaining the actual response times experienced by end users on every LAN segment and across each wide area network link. Pro View 1.5 provides network managers with a 24 hour a day, system-wide view of LAN segment and wide area network performance. It may be used in SNA networks or TCP/IP networks. Pro View 1.5 runs concurrently with production traffic.


Arcus Data Security, Inc. Announces the Acquisition of DataVault

PLEASANTON, CA - Arcus Data Security, Inc. announced the acquisition of the West Palm Beach, FL based company, DataVault. The off-site media storage facility was built in 1983 and services the South Florida area. In addition to Lakeland and Orlando, this acquisition will add a third Arcus facility to Florida. Arcus has been growing at an aggressive rate, acquiring facilites in San Francisco, CA; Orlando, FL and Charolette, NC.


Comdisco Announces Year 2000 Test Service

ROSEMONT, IL - Comdisco Disaster Recovery Services announced a new family of services that will reduce the cost and time it takes for companies to prepare for and avert the year 2000 disaster. Computer programs with six-digit date fields (day, month, two-digit year) that rely on date-intensive calculations will be affected by the turn-of-the-century date change and will produce inaccurate data if not converted. These services extend companies enterprisewide recovery plans and enhance disaster avoidance preparedness.

SunGard Acquires Assets of Digital Equipment Corporation’s North American Recovery Services Business

WAYNE, PA - SunGard Recovery Services, Inc. has acquired the assets of the North American recovery services business of Digital Equipment Corporation. By mutual agreement of the companies, the financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed. The purchase is SunGard Recovery Services’ largest acquisition to date. Currently, the transition process is well underway as far as transferring Digital’s hardware assets and customer base over to SunGard. The hardware assets of Digital will be transferred over completely by this August. SunGard will in turn acquire three very large hotsite centers in Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Chicago.
