I recently saw this editorial cartoon and found it to be very appropriate for the turbulent times we are all experiencing across the U.S. and throughout most of the world. There is much debate about whether we are headed for a recession. It is all I hear on the evening news, on the television and from political analysts.

While DRJ does not normally tackle topics such as this, I found the cartoon interesting and relatable to our industry. I am not going to debate whether we are in a recession or discuss how the experts determine the criteria for a recession. That is not DRJ’s forum. However, I am interested in how these recession rumors are affecting business continuity planning professionals.

Our industry is becoming streamlined, organizations are cutting budgets and planners are often performing the tasks of two, three or more people. While tight budgets are not uncommon in this industry, it is disheartening to see the cutbacks that are happening across the board in large corporations and small businesses. Yet, it is also understandable.
