ASHTEAD, UK BridgeHead Software today announced that its Healthcare Data Management (HDM) Solution successfully passed the European Connectathon for Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) in Bern, Switzerland.

During the course of the Connectathon, over 2,800 tests for the interoperability of 120 medical information systems were performed by 85 companies at the five-day, “marathon” testing environment. BridgeHead Software’s XDS repository and ancillary systems were tested alongside 24 other healthcare IT systems to demonstrate enterprise wide healthcare collaborative potential.

Niall Monaghan, IHE-UK SC Co-Chair commented: “Passing through the Connectathon has enabled BridgeHead to validate its integration statement. You can clearly see on our website that BridgeHead has completed the required tests to conform to a selection of IHE profiles. As a result, customers and potential customers can be confident in BridgeHead’s ability to provide interoperable data management solutions, using the IHE XDS profiles they tested against.

With the increase in the adoption of the XDS standard by hospitals in general (not just in radiology, as is often perceived), it is essential that software vendors step up to the mark and ensure their products are fully compatible so that all patient data can be shared,” said John McCann, Director of Marketing, BridgeHead Software. “BridgeHead continues to support IHE. Our research and development in XDS, and our successful completion of the Connectathon, proves our continued dedication and commitment to enabling interoperability across a hospital’s IT environment.

BridgeHead Software’s HDM Solution enables hospitals to increase the quality of patient care by harnessing all clinical and administrative data, ensuring that it is: STORED,

efficiently, intelligently and at optimum cost; PROTECTED from misuse, corruption and loss; and can be SHARED between users, applications, departments or other hospitals, making vital patient information accessible to the people that need it.

Jamie Clifton, Director of Product Management at BridgeHead Software, commented: “We’re very happy to have had such a successful session at IHE this year and to have seen such positive results for our HDM solution at the Connectathon. Our customers need total trust in our products and their ability to integrate and collaborate with other healthcare systems. The rigor and depth of testing offered by the Connectathon provides another level of gravitas to our solutions and we’re fortunate to have taken part.

Niall concluded, “Completing and passing the 2012 Connectathon definitely boosts BridgeHead’s credibility in this space especially as integration and collaboration are absolutely key to working in healthcare. Additionally, we’re excited that BridgeHead will be participating more actively in IHE as a vendor, contributing to meetings and our UK healthcare strategy. As a member, they can join the discussion as to where the future lies and help us shape it.

PITTSBURGH – Avere Systems today introduced its latest FXT Series Edge filer, designed to bring the benefits of NAS Optimization to remote office environments by allowing companies to centralize resources and reduce the amount of infrastructure at remote locations while providing the ability to run mission-critical applications outside of the data center and across a WAN without performance degradation.

The Avere FXT 3100 Edge filer contains 48GB of DRAM and 1GB NVRAM to accelerate the read, write and metadata performance of most active data.  It contains 2.4TB of 10k SAS HDDs to store a large working set of recently active data.  FXT 3100's 2x 10GbE and 6x 1GbE ports allow connectivity to clients and servers for high performance access to active data and to Core filers for infrequently accessed data.  Each unit can be clustered to other FXT Edge filers with scaling of up to 50 nodes for linear performance and HA failover.

"Organizations have experienced numerous challenges in delivering corporate applications and/or IT services to remote locations—challenges related primarily to poor application performance, slow file transfer speeds, and WAN bandwidth costs. More than half of respondents in a recent ESG survey indicated that remote application access challenges have been the cause of dissatisfaction among end-users," said Terri McClure, Senior Analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group.  "Avere’s FXT 3100 Edge filer is an example of a product that can help solve this problem while also helping address the cost and manageability challenges tied to remote storage deployments."

Built on the latest Avere Operating System (AOS), the Avere FXT 3100 Edge filer enables automatic tiering of data for optimal performance, advanced monitoring to provide deep visibility into the entire NAS environment and a global namespace for managing all storage as a single pool.  Optional software enhancements include Avere FlashMove™ that takes the pain out of NAS data migrations and accelerates the performance of data; and FlashMirror™, heterogeneous NAS replication software that provides a flexible and high-performance solution for implementing comprehensive data protection across a NAS infrastructure.

“While all organizations can benefit from the improvements in performance and reduction in footprint that our FXT Series Edge filers offer, enterprises with remote or branch offices face a unique situation with sprawling NAS environments that require additional capital and operation investments,” said Ron Bianchini, President and CEO of Avere Systems. “Our new FXT 3100 Edge filer helps take the sting out of these deployments by providing global data access and visibility of data as part of a single logical pool, alleviating the need for duplicate storage infrastructure in remote offices and provides a form factor suitable for branch offices.”

Pricing and Availability
The FXT 3100 Edge filer starts at $42,500.  It is expected to be generally available within the 30 days. Additional information about the FXT series is available at http://www.averesystems.com/Products_FXT.aspx

About Avere Systems
Avere Systems brings to the market NAS Optimization solutions designed specifically to scale performance and capacity separately and take advantage of new storage media using real-time tiering. Avere’s FXT Series Edge filers allow organizations to achieve unlimited application performance scaling, free applications from the confines of the data center by eliminating latency and cut storage costs by more than half. Boston, Mass. Zerto, the industry’s first hypervisor-based replication solution provider, today announced that the Philadelphia Contributionship has chosen Zerto Virtual Replication for disaster recovery to support the company’s data center virtualization efforts.  Established by Benjamin Franklin in 1752, the Philadelphia Contributionship is America’s oldest insurance company, providing personalized home, fire, and flood insurance to over 400 insurance agencies across several mid-Atlantic states including Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

The Contributionship implemented Zerto Virtual Replication to protect essential servers and applications dedicated to the company’s daily business functions, including accounting, document management and IT support systems as well as Microsoft SharePoint.  The company began evaluating and upgrading their BC/DR capabilities following Hurricane Irene, when they realized that their existing strategies and solutions provided minimal protection against a major systems failure.

“Our old recovery and testing strategy was a complex ordeal at best, as it put intensive strains on our network and made it impossible to meet the recovery objectives our business demands” said Mark Montagna, IT Infrastructure Manager, Philadelphia Contributionship.  “Zerto delivered comprehensive data and application protection without any updates or upgrades to our current network or storage infrastructure, simply and affordably.”

Zerto offers a virtual-aware business continuity and disaster recovery (BC/DR) solution, which replicates data within the virtual infrastructure instead of in physical storage.  By moving replication to the hypervisor, companies extend the benefits of virtualization, including flexibility, mobility and scalability to their disaster recovery solutions.  Zerto’s hypervisor-based replication combines the enterprise-class features of physical replication with the flexibility, ease- of-management and control, and scalability of virtual environments.

“We are proud to have been selected by the Philadelphia Contributionship as they modernize their data center,” said Ziv Kedem, CEO of Zerto.  “Zerto Virtual Replication provides insurance for business critical data and applications’, offering enterprise-class data recovery and protection for today’s virtualized environments.”

About Zerto

Zerto provides enterprise-class business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized infrastructure and cloud. Zerto won a 2011 Product of the Year Gold award as well as Best of Show at VMworld 2011. Zerto Virtual Replication is the industry’s first hypervisor-based replication solution for tier-one applications and replaces traditional array-based BC/DR solutions that were not built to deal with the virtual paradigm. Waltham, MA – Sanbolic®, the market leader in data management, today announced that its Sanbolic Melio software for Microsoft SQL Server Clustering is featured in a new Intel® Enabled Solution Acceleration Alliance (ESAA) recipe. The recipe, or solution guide, outlines how to get the most out of clustering Microsoft SQL Server on Intel® Server platforms.

Intel ESAA gives resellers and direct Intel OEMs access to a wide range of pre-validated configuration guides ("recipes") jointly developed by Intel and independent hardware and software vendors (IxVs).  Intel resellers, original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and Intermediate eXperimental Vehicles, as well as end users for whom the solutions are intended, will find the new recipe, the Sanbolic Melio and Microsoft SQL 2008R2 Guide, well-timed as organizations continue to struggle with the high cost and complexity of configuring, managing and protecting large SQL Server implementations. With its unique and extensive capabilities, Sanbolic’s Melio data management platform helps organizations overcome these challenges, which are so often rooted in traditional storage architectures that require multiple volumes in order to achieve granular failover in clustered SQL Server deployments.  By enabling optimal storage utilization, simplified database management (i.e., eliminating database sprawl), live storage/data migration, and quality of service (QoS) that ensures high performance of critical SQL Server workloads, Melio delivers a cost-effective solution for SQL Server consolidation and high availability in physical, virtual and mixed environments.

“We included Sanbolic’s Melio data management software as a key component in the ‘Sanbolic Melio and Microsoft SQL 2008R2 Guide’ guide because its industry-unique features and functionality help users overcome the numerous challenges associated with SQL Server clustering while delivering enhanced storage performance and availability, as well as providing the ability to scale out, not just up,” said Rick Cecil, Intel® ESAA Architect at Intel.

“Providing active-active access to storage eliminates the need for individual server/storage silos, thereby enhancing both server and storage utilization while reducing the management burden customers face when supporting clustered SQL Server environments. Cluster-wide data protection, granular performance management and the ability to scale deployments seamlessly offers organizations additional capabilities for protecting, managing and scaling their SQL Server environments,” stated Andy Melmed, Director of Enterprise Solutions at Sanbolic.  “Sanbolic is delighted to have once again worked with Intel® to develop another ESAA recipe.  It is a seal of approval for which we are understandably proud.”

Additional Sanbolic recipes featured under the Intel® ESAA program include:

  • Building Virtual Datacenters with Sanbolic Melio and Microsoft Hyper-V R2

Long Branch, N.J. – On the heels of a rare and extremely dangerous storm in our National Capital Region (NCR), Cooper Notification, the leading supplier of Life Safety and Mass Notification System (MNS) solutions, is helping to keep those affected informed. Utilizing Cooper Notification’s Roam Secure Alert Network (RSAN), emergency management officials are able to send those in the NCR a wide range of alerts to both stay informed and help aid recovery efforts.

Covering 18 total jurisdictions in the NCR, Cooper Notification is reporting that nearly 500,000 users have taken advantage of the system and more than 4 million alert messages were sent between June 29 and July 2. These messages included all user emergency and severe weather alerts; updated traffic patterns and road closures; school and government closings; and information regarding cooling centers, food, water and ice distribution locations.

"Although somewhat rare, summer storms, like the recent derecho that wreaked havoc on the National Capital Region, have the potential to cripple communications for millions of residents," said Scott Hearn, President, Cooper Notification. "By utilizing our RSAN solutions, those affected can receive the latest updates to stay informed, learn where vital support stations are located and avoid certain areas to speed up recovery efforts.”

Through RSAN, emergency management personnel are able to send geographically targeted alerts, even during power outages, to communities across the region. During this crisis, alerts were sent simultaneously via e-mail, text and voice to cell phones, landlines, smart phones, pagers and other devices. Utilizing multiple delivery channels increases the likelihood each population will receive the message no matter where they are located or evacuated.
