Effective Use of Transit Management During A Crisis

Many public transit systems in the United States are implementing Transit Management technology to better manage the day-to-day operations of their fleets, but this same technology can be utilized to effectively dispatch/move fleets to meet the special needs of a crisis. If implemented throughout a community’s fleet of public vehicles (police, street maintenance, fire trucks, etc) the stage is set to orchestrate rapid and complex vehicle movements to end a crisis before it begins. Each participant will gain an understanding of current technologies and the best ways to implement them to maximize their benefit.

A Positive Force In A Negative Field

Selling business continuity planning to management is one of those topics that is never easily addressed. We are told to focus on management liability, relate stories of other organizations that have experienced disasters, quote statistics and other scare tactics or “negative” messages. If you think about it, there are a lot of benefits that a good business continuity program provides an organization. These benefits are realized even if an organization never has to implement the plan (which we all hope is the case). This session will discuss many of the beneficial effects a good business continuity program can provide an organization and furnish you with a positive story to relate to management.

Gerry Printz, CBCP, CISA, CISSP, is president of Amsador, Ltd. He has more than 25 years of experience in information systems. He has written more than 100 business continuity plans for data centers running Local and Wide Area Networks, midrange computers and mainframes. He has also written plans for business unit recovery, manufacturing plant floor recovery as well as recovery plans for entire organizations.

Identifying, Managing and Recovering Business-Critical Records

An essential element of business continuity planning is identifying the records that are critical to the core operations of the business so that they can be properly safeguarded. Since only three to five percent of an organization’s records are truly critical to the continuity of the business, implementing and sustaining a vital records program can greatly reduce the costs of recovery in the event of a disaster. This session will cover the requirements within the first American National Standards Institute (ANSI) ARMA International standard on establishing a vital records program. Short case study examples will illustrate appropriate implementation.

Diane Carlisle, CRM, is the director of professional resources for ARMA International. Her primary responsibility for ARMA is directing the Standards Development Program.
