A three way bank disaster recovery plan with remote backup

A three way bank disaster recovery plan with remote backup

Postby eNeeman » Thu Oct 13, 2011 3:56 am

Hello,
I'm conducting a research regarding three way disaster data recovery plans which include a remote tertiary backup site in banking, and was wondering if anyone knows about banks that have had exceptional success in implementing a plan of this sort.
Also any banks who may not have had success per se but have an interesting story and have learned important lessons while setting up a plan or establishing a remote tertiary site.
If anyone could give me a few names of banks, or even some details about the projects that would be great!
Thanks and regards,

I have done a couple of non-bank 3-way plans - Business, Primary Backup, and Secondary Backup.

In one, the triangle was Middle East -US - Far East. The concept was great and workable. The weak link was the transporter (the European organization expected to provide the network connectivity). The weak link was due to a political decision and overrode the fact that the vendor lacked a business continuity plan. (The messenger was "shot." :-\ )

The other was Southeast US - Intermountain West - Northeast US; Intermountain was the primary backup site while the Northeast was the secondary backup. There were multiple carriers so this organization avoided the dangers of the previously defined operation. Funny enough, the customer was expected to point the switch to a backup site if the business site failed. (It didn't.)
