Lurkers and the Silent Majority

Lurkers and the Silent Majority

Postby pridder » Wed Nov 28, 2012 12:26 pm

I've been absent from this forum for some time due to a multitude of reasons with which I won't bore you. I'm actually surprised at the number of posts that collect literally hundreds of views and virtually nothing on comments. We come to these forums for help, guidance or a second opinion from like minded professionals that understand our struggles. I'm calling out to the silent majority to share your experiences and knowledge to enrich the time we spend here. These forums shouldn't be so one sided. BTW, this isn't unique to the DRJ forum. Our Linkedin group for ACP looks the same. Only three or four of us ever post comments.

WOW! This guy is right on the mark. Why don't we comment more? I'm going to make a commitment to reply to a few posts every week.

(Sorry, couldn't resist. It might be my only reply)

Pridder:

If you scroll down the main discussion board to the bottom, you'll see there are 21 pages of this board, going back 8 years. The board was very popular and we had tons of comments and shared wisdom. But a few things changed that: one was the incessant attempts of vendors to use the board to peddle their wares, which, for a magazine publisher who makes most of its money selling ad space to vendors, is the ultimate no-no. And Bob is 100% right in doing so. The other problem was the website came under a series of attacks that required revamping the entire look and feel while adding security measures to prevent such problems. In the meantime, Facebook and other social media came into vogue, and Bob included the new blog feature, which I and a host of others since, have posted all manner of bloviating pieces.

So, I encourage you to help resurrect what I believe was a great site for sharing among fellow BCM practitioners.

Thanks grewjac, I certainly understand the competition between the various social media sites. And by the way, it was pridder, not prudder but you can call me Pat. I'm still not getting my brain wrapped around the idea that 100's of views can come in for a post and no one replies. I will however become an advocate for this forum because my mission to be the last man on the planet to NOT have a facebook account will not be swayed. :)

As Mr. Jacobsen suggested, if you go back a way with the Forum you'll see that your complaint has been a constant one almost from Day One (which you won't find due to the "Oops" hinted at by Mr. Jacobsen). There are those who frequently contributed, either by trying to raise answer-provoking questions or to offer answers based on their expertise.
I _suspect_ that the dearth of comments here can be partially laid at the feet of LinkedIn and DRJ's presence there. As Mr. Jacobsen noted, "social media."
As for Facebook, Twitter, et al and etc. - huh?? Security issues all. (Change passwords early and often.
