The regular General Membership Meeting of the MidAmerica Contingency Planning Forum was held on Thursday, June 15, 2000, at Ameren UE Office, beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Treasurer Angie Swartz welcomed all the members and guests to the meeting and thanked Ameren for hosting the meeting.  Introductions of all present were made.  She reminded everyone that there remained outstanding dues, and these should be sent to her attention with a new application for updating purposes.

MCPF golf shirts are now available at a price of $22 in either black or white.  The group emblem is stitched on the left chest area in color.  Anyone wishing to order a shirt should send a request to Angie or forms will be available at future meetings or through email.

The group was informed that Dean Donley, Vice President of MCPF, had accepted a position out of state and, therefore, had tendered his resignation from the Board.  Everyone expressed good wishes for him in the future.

The Red Cross grant money available to conduct training sessions will be used on ebusiness recovery concerns or development of general recovery plans.  There were 34 survey responses received, and the results were 62% for ebusiness and 38% for general plans.  A brief discussion on this subject followed.

Mrs. Swartz informed the group that the next general meeting would be held on Thursday, July 20, 2000, at American Red Cross.  Brook Dubman of Carol House Furniture will be the speaker and the topic will be a case study in recovery.

Program Director Mike Smiley next introduced the group to Ken Kousky, President of Wave Technologies International as the featured speaker.  His topic was on "Information Management in Emergency Planning" and his presentation concentrated on lessons learned by the Y2K preparations and activities.  Key points of his discussion included:

¨       Money spent preparing for Y2K is estimated at $380-800 billion.

¨       An increase in E-Business has opened numerous companies to tremendous exposures and some of these points have been identified.

¨       Concerns of E-Business are security and control versus ease of use.

¨       The global information market makes access to information/material universal and easily accessible, for both good and bad users.

¨       Estimates imply losses from electronic theft will more than replicate the money spent on Y2K preparation.

¨       Start with Y2K plans to develop E-Business plans.

¨       Following Y2K activities, you should be starting with a well-cataloged, well-defined list of inventory.

¨       Look at operations outside of the IT area.  Ask Sales group what happens if customers cannot use their electronic access mode.

Handouts of Mr. Kousky's presentation are available in hardcopy only.  If interested in receiving a copy, please contact Secretary Anna Bathon and she will send a copy out.

A tour of the Ameren facilities and the dispatch center was offered to those present.  Most of the attendees did take the tour and several nice comments were heard following the tour.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
