The regular general business meeting of the Mid-America Contingency Planning Forum was held at the American Red Cross on Thursday, August 20, 1998, and began at 3:00 p.m.
President Tom Roeseler welcomed everyone, members and guests, and thanked them for attending. He next introduced Mike Farley, CEO of the Bi-State Chapter of the American Red Cross. Mr. Farley welcomed everyone to his facility and commented that recover y occurred 2-1/2 times quicker with plans in place.
A review of the July 16 meeting minutes took place. The minutes were approved as presented.
Program Director Tim Proost gave an update on the program status and highlighted the date changes for the September and December meetings. The September meeting will be on 9/24 due to a conflict with the DRJ conference, and the December meeting will be held on 12/3 to avoid conflicts with the upcoming holidays.
Proposed changes to the Forum’s Bylaws was the next order of business. Tim Woerther discussed major changes that had been made; namely, Page 4 – additional positions; Pages 5/6 – duties changes; and Page 8 – addition of a Nominating Committee. Mel Muss on indicated he had several changes he would like to implement, and he will head a committee to review these additional recommendations. This group will consist of Mel, Paul Thomas, and Anna Bathon. Membership packets will be developed and distributed to all current members after approval of these additional changes. Mr. Musson then made a motion to approve the Bylaws as presented with the understanding of the review of his suggested changes. The motion was seconded and approved by the members present. P>
New business items was the next order of business. Mr. Musson informed the group that a one-day workshop on "DR Preparation and Recovery" would be held on October 7 and presented by BOMA. An orientation exercise would be conducted in the afternoon, and a mobile command unit would be available. The workshop will be held at the Graphics Communication Center (south of Edward Jones on Progress Parkway). Individuals wishing information on this session should contact Mel Musson at 314/461-0536.
The final order of business was the featured presentation – Disaster Preparation for the Home and Office – presented by Deane Adam of the American Red Cross (ARC). Deane discussed programs and services available through the ARC that could be uti lized in preparing a recovery plan or during an actual emergency event.
Deane commented on what businesses can do for the Red Cross; namely, provide approximately 5,000 to 10,000 square feet of warehouse space, lighting, AC/heating, 24x7 access, a loading dock. Warehouse space could be made available both during disaster a nd peace times.
