Position Description:
Southern Wine and Spirits of America, the nation’s leading distributor of wine and spirits, is currently seeking to hire an experienced Business Continuity professional to manage the development of the Business Continuity program for the state of Florida.

The Director, Business Continuity – Florida will be responsible to provide hands-on subject matter expertise in support of the development of a divisional, state-wide Business Continuity program. Reporting to the National Director of Business Continuity, this is a highly visible position that will collaborate with staff at all levels of the organization in order to implement a sound, proactive and comprehensive state-level Business Continuity program that will enable Southern to plan for and respond to a business interruption event.

The responsibilities of this position include coordinating the development, maintenance, and exercising (testing) of the business continuity plans for each critical functional area for the business operating division. This role includes being tactical in conducting organizational research; performing and evaluating business impact analyses and risk assessments; developing program policies, plans and procedures; coordinating testing and exercise activities; and providing training and awareness communications. In addition, this position will also support the build out of the Business Continuity program support model which will provide the framework for a common enterprise approach for the governance, development, execution and sustainability of a national Business Continuity program.

Position Responsibilities

  • Partner with division management and organizational subject matter experts to develop detailed and comprehensive Business Continuity plans for each functional area within each business operating division. Conduct reviews, analyze requirements, recommend strategies and write and update Business Continuity plans as required

  • Coordinate and monitor all project management activities to execute all phases of the full Business Continuity program lifecycle from program initiation thru operational status for all plans

  • Develop policies, procedures, templates, standards and documentation in support of the deployment, management and sustainability of the program

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the business processes, assets, facilities, responsibilities, regulatory requirements and interdependencies of the organization

  • Perform risk analyses for each functional area to evaluate points of vulnerability, single-points-of-failure and identify risk avoidance and mitigation strategies

  • Create test plans and coordinate regular Business Continuity plan exercises to assess the operational readiness, viability and weaknesses of each plan

  • Coordinate staff training and facilitate Business Continuity outreach and awareness communications

  • Oversee the development, exercising and execution of crisis management plans including supporting the deployment of a mass notification/crisis communications system/capability

  • Perform regular reviews and updates to all program materials in order to ensure that the quality and accuracy of all program documentation is maintained

  • Research and incorporate both industry and corporate best practices into the Business Continuity program methodology as appropriate

  • Perform continuous monitoring of program activities in order to identify areas of opportunity for improvement, cost reduction and enhanced operational efficiency

  • Assist with crisis management and Business Continuity activities in the event of a business interruption by providing plan and program subject matter expertise

  • Maintain accurate and complete program performance metrics and develop management reports as necessary

Qualifications Skills and Requirements 

This position requires a disciplined and proven professional with hands-on Business Continuity program execution experience in a large, distributed environment. In addition to having strong analytical, written, presentation, negotiating and technical skills, the successful candidate must have the ability to build teams, establish credibility, evangelize the program, and communicate effectively within the organization and with external business partners. Additional requirements for this position include:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery and Crisis Management

  • Business Continuity professional certification is desirable (ex: Certified Business Continuity Professional - CBCP)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desirable

  • Experience in a large-scale environment conducting business impact analyses and building comprehensive and detailed Business Continuity plans for facilities, processes, people and technology

  • Knowledge and experience in supply chain logistics, warehouse and distribution management is preferred

  • Working knowledge of emergency management practices and the principles of the Incident Command System (ICS)

  • Disciplined program, project and time management skills with the proven ability to work in a cross functional, matrixed and diverse workforce environment

  • A self-starter, highly motivated individual with the ability to work independently or in a collaborative team environment

  • Detail orientated and disciplined to solve complex problems with the ability to resolve issues and drive solutions that create win-win situations

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects in a fast paced environment while ensuring the security, confidentiality and integrity of sensitive data

  • Excellent coaching, teaching and training skills that have the ability to easily convey program concepts, procedures and methodologies

  • Budget and contractor management skills

  • Flexibility to travel as required

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or 3-4 years of additional experience analyzing and reporting on complex processes or procedures.

  • 3 + years’ analyzing and reporting on complex processes and policies as they relate to business continuity. Related experience in a financial institution preferred.

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

  • Strong analytical skills. Experienced in evaluating various strategies and making recommendations

  • Strong written communication skills. Ability to conduct research, coordinates resources, and synthesize in writing a broad array of information into a concise, easy-to-understand summary.

  • Strong verbal and presentation skills. Experience presenting to senior leadership is preferred.

  • Demonstrated self-motivation with a strong ability to work in a multi-tasking, changing environment.

  • Proficient user of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Visio preferred
