Job Summary
Responsible for administering daily functions of the Disaster Recovery program such as facilitation of gathering recovery requirements and documentation and design of recovery plans for the Business, Application and Technical teams. Performs Administrator activities for DR tools, ensuring contents are relevant and current, and supports management of DR contracts. Schedules and participates in all DR testing activities to document, evaluate and report results. Evaluates DR strategies to ensure they are effective, relevant and tie with technology capabilities and processes. Participates in DR awareness activities to include the facilitation of training and program awareness. Collaborates and partners with the business, IT teams, and vendors to design and implement DR solutions. Works under general supervision of Manager. May provide guidance and oversight to more junior Analysts.
Job Responsibilities (listed in order of importance and/or time spent)
- Assists in the response and recovery activities during times of crisis, disasters and/or other emergencies. Performs daily disaster recovery activities to ensure the Disaster Recovery Program is meeting objectives. Works closely with the Business, Application and Technology teams to understand goals and objectives, clarify requests and requirements. Coordinates the development, documentation and maintenance of DR plans, DR status, and reporting and resolution of issues and risks.
- Performs business impact analysis on all existing disaster recovery plans and newly proposed applications. Identifies criticality and tier level for applications. Ability to define application requirements, gather and create process flows and develop technical HA/DR requirements and specifications for input into design.
- Develops and defines the recovery objectives and recovery solutions based on requirements. Defines how quickly a system should be recovered and the amount of data loss that is acceptable to the business for each application. Identifies, designs, and maintains the business, application and technical requirements of hardware, system components, and overall infrastructure. Identifies critical dependencies for new and existing applications, including inputs/outputs, servers, hardware, software, data, networks, and vendors. Develops and implements recovery plans which include the following components: hardware, OS/software, database, storage and application/data, network, Active Directory, third party vendors, backup & vaulting, and security.
- Manages recovery projects and acts as a subject matter expert on the implementation and capabilities of the existing recovery technology within the Company. Develops and fosters strategic relationships across the business and technology groups. Facilitates the interaction between the business and technology groups. Manages Internal and External Audits and the Request for proposal process.
- Partners with the client to understand the business and client's processes and business goals to adequately gather and document the recovery requirements. Ensures that the client understands the recovery process and how the proper definition and documentation will help improve the process. Identifies desired results and provides and understanding of the opportunity or problem. Designs and proposes recommended solutions that meet Business requirements, the recovery time objective, and the recovery point objective.
- Plans and develops tests solutions to validate whether the recovery requirements have been met. Develops test plans, test scripts and test conditions based on the Business and recovery requirements. Manages numerous tests per year. Identifies and makes recommendations regarding risks, issues, critical points of failure. Manages teams for before, during, and after test activities and ensures pretest planning and post -test follow-up.
- May be involved in the evaluation of products and/or procedures to enhance productivity and effectiveness. Contributes to the negotiations with vendors for procurement of resources, hardware, services, pricing and test hours/dates/times.
- Works collaboratively with areas of IT to ensure that all recovery solutions are appropriately implemented and supported. Collaborates with the businesses and other key stakeholders to customize, train, exercise and build awareness around the disaster recovery program. Assists in the development of training programs and may facilitate training sessions, when necessary.
- Monitors production changes to identify implications to DR systems and DR Plans and recommend solutions. Manages maintenance for hot and live DR equipment. Contributes to the contract negotiations with vendors. Develops, implements, and ensures documentation of recovery standards, procedures, processes, guideline and policies. Ensures requirements and deliverables are clearly defined. Identifies opportunities as they present themselves relating to enhancement of the testing process and supports integration into other technology processes (Service Desk, Change Management, etc.).
- Prepares ad hoc and standard management level reports for the program. Analyzes and key reports that detail the KPIs against the overall preparedness status of the business and technology as it relates to the BIA, Assessments, and Disaster Recovery planning. Identifies, develops and executes plans to remediate gaps.
- May guide and provide leadership to more junior analysts.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications & Interests
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 5 years of experience in IT or Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity OR a High School Diploma/GED and at least 8 years of experience in IT or Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity.
- At least 3 years of experience in Disaster Recovery defining Recovery objectives, gathering and documenting business and application requirements and developing technical requirements, and developing recovery solutions.
- Experience gathering business and technical requirements and communicating them to business and technology staff to provide executable recovery solutions to the business.
- Experience operating as a liaison between the business, technology groups and vendors.
- Experience communicating conceptual and technical information.
- Experience translating technical data into business impact information and vice versa.
- Experience with project management concepts and executing against a project plan.
- Available for on-call coverage during evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Willing to travel at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications & Interests
Preferred certification in DRII (Disaster Recovery Institute International) or BCI (Business Continuity Institute) as granted by DRI International and Business Continuity Institute.
