The Director, Business Continuity is responsible for all operational aspects of the Walgreens Business Continuity Program to include coordinating with Business and Functional Unit leadership in the development, implementation, and maintenance of unique plans and procedures to mitigate the negative effects of disruptive events and to ensure the business can resume operations as soon as possible with minimal interruption and loss.
Job Responsibilities:
- Directs the Business Continuity Program. Directs and oversees the design, development, maintenance and testing of plans for each business and functional area, including technology, building facilities, personnel and vendors. In addition to planning, is responsible for the effectiveness of actual responses and recovery efforts in the event of disruptive events, including 24x7 on-call support for any emergency which may require activation of all or part of the business continuity plan.
- In close coordination with the Internal Audit Function, ensures that regulatory requirements are met by the established Business Continuity Program. Provides governance over compliance with business continuity laws, regulations, policies and processes.
- Ensures that the Business Continuity Program is aligned with Corporate plans, objectives, and strategies. Leads the development and execution of the enterprise-wide strategic plan for business continuity including leading regularly scheduled reviews to ensure the strategic goals are being met. Creates action plans to meet strategic objectives and goals.
- Develops and implements Business Continuity policies, procedures and best practices on an enterprise-wide basis and supervises the testing of these procedures. Identifies Key Performance Indicators through analysis of risk/threat vulnerability studies and impact assessments. Builds remediation around the identified KPIs. Establishes corrective action plans as necessary to ensure the enterprise has sufficient resources to respond to disasters and interruptions and that responses are in accordance with established policies, procedures and best practices.
- Maintains contact with outside contingency planning professional organizations and local/regional emergency response groups. Acts as liaison with outside organizations participating in reciprocal agreements.
- Builds implements and maintains enterprise-wide business continuity training and awareness programs.
- Provides for overall Senior management reporting, budget reviews, issues and actions pertaining to the validity and compliance of the disaster recovery program. Manages department budget and cost controls.
- Develops and mentors staff through on-boarding, open communication, training and development opportunities and performance management processes; builds and maintains employee morale and motivation; ensures the team is appropriately staffed with required competencies; fosters a diverse and inclusive workplace.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree and at least 10 years of experience managing business problems.
- Experience evaluating information to determine compliance with standards, laws, and regulations.
- Experience with Business Continuity planning approaches, practices, tools and techniques.
- Experience performing risk assessments and business impact analysis.
- Experience establishing & maintaining relationships with individuals at all levels of the organization, in the business community & with vendors.
- Experience using time management skills such as prioritizing/organizing and tracking details and meeting deadlines of multiple projects with varying completion dates.
- Experience with project management (for example: planning, organizing, and managing resources to bring about the successful completion of specific project goals and objectives).
- Experience negotiating with outside vendors, including negotiating contracts, prices, resolving service issues and reconciling differences.
- Experience developing and delivering presentations to various audience levels within an organization.
- At least 5 years experience planning, developing, and managing departmental expense and capital budgets.
- At least 5 years experience directly managing people, including hiring, developing, motivating, and directing people as they work
- Willing to travel at least 20% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state).
Preferred Qualifications:
MBA
Industry certification at the Certified Business Continuity Planner (CBCP) level or above.
