Eaton's Modular Substation Solutions Simplify, Expedite and Reduce Cost of Power System Deployment

PITTSBURGH, PA — Power management company Eaton today introduced its Modular Integrated Transportable Substation (MITS), an electrical power assembly solution, designed to expedite and reduce the cost of substation deployment. The MITS incorporates a flexible, expandable and portable design in a compact footprint that can accommodate future power needs for utility, industrial and commercial applications.

Eaton's engineering experts provide turnkey support, from substation design to installation and startup, to enhance system reliability, safety and security. Eaton will showcase the MITS and its engineering expertise at the IEEE PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition in Chicago from April 14-17, in Eaton booth #3818.

"By providing comprehensive design, construction and installation, Eaton helps reduce the cost and time needed to expand or deploy power systems," said John Gadbury, utility segment manager, Electrical Engineering Services and Systems Division, Eaton. "With world-class expertise and global manufacturing capabilities, Eaton also helps customers meet exact power requirements, plan for future needs and achieve higher cost efficiency."

The highly compact MITS units are engineered to fit on a traditional concrete transformer pad or trailer to simplify transportation management and meet evolving power requirements. With the ability to transport an entire substation, utilities can quickly expand distribution systems to reduce downtime resulting from storm damage.

The streamlined delivery of the MITS platform provides a solution for applications where rapid power system deployment is necessary. The modular substations require minimal site work and each unit is factory-assembled, wired and tested to minimize on-site labor costs, quality issues and time.

The completely enclosed design also helps enhance personnel safety by using dead front components whenever possible. MITS units also incorporate tamperproof, locked enclosures to enhance security. Further, by utilizing shield-grounded medium voltage cable, the solution is less susceptible to environmental, wildlife and other damage than equivalent air insulted systems.
