More than 1,400 attendees, expert speakers and exhibitors gathered at Walt Disney World’s Coronado Springs Resort in Orlando for the Disaster Recovery Journal Spring World 2003 conference March 30 - April 2.

“Of those 1,400 people, we had 1,100 paid registrants,” said Bob Arnold, vice president of Disaster Recovery Journal. “I think it shows the strength and the importance of business continuity. With all the elements against us – the economy, the war, and everything else – for us to still pull in 1,400 people is a testament to the industry.”

Hewlett-Packard was the gold sponsor of DRJ’s 28th conference in 15 years (see sidebar). Co-sponsors included: Booz Allen Hamilton, FedEx Custom Critical, Forsythe Solutions, MessageOne, Sprint, SunGard Availability Services, DRI International and PPBI. E-Team sponsored the mock disaster while Agility Recovery Solutions sponsored the Cyber Café.

“DRJ (Spring World) 2003 was absolutely fantastic,” said Gary Rounbehler of Philadelphia Stock Exchange. “I was able to network with many peers in my industry. The sharing of ideas has enhanced my knowledge for BCP.”

Arnold was impressed with the diversity of exhibitors at Spring World 2003, covering all aspects of enterprise-wide business continuity.

“There were probably at least 16 new vendors who have never exhibited with us in the past,” said Arnold.

“Another great job by DRJ,” said Renard Rosas of Ingersoll-Rand Co. “I come away with numerous gems that I can immediately apply at my company. Great location and facilities.”

Prior to the conference, Steven Weber, of Herff Jones, won a Walt Disney World vacation package as part of DRJ’s 15-year anniversary celebration. Ten others won the right to participate in the Richard Petty Driving Experience at Walt Disney World Speedway.
DRJ’s 15-year celebration will continue with more prizes to be awarded prior to the Fall World 2003, Sept. 21-24 in San Diego. For more information, click here.
