PPBI as many of you know created an industry award to recognize some of those whom we consider are “Best in Class.” The PPBI Best Practices Award has been a tradition at DRJ since 2002. Past recipients include Dr. Richard Klasco (our first recipient) for his response in the ER Trauma Unit following the Columbine High School shootings, Brent Woodward and Dr. Tom Phelan for their work following the Southeast Asia Tsunami, and the CDC Foundation for their work coordinating the Mega-Leadership Summit conferences around the country. These and our other recipients were recognized for great work in crisis implementation, often in the face of overwhelmingly difficult circumstances. Each of them epitomized the goals of PPBI, namely improving capability by implementing public-private partnerships. However, it is often there are many overlooked candidates who toil behind the scenes, taking leadership by the horns, and use the principles of PPBI on a day-to-day
