Economy, Residents Suffer as Fires Blaze Through Florida

Wildfires continued raging through Florida during July, devouring land, homes and businesses. Residents in several counties were forced out of their homes, turning cities into ghost towns. Businesses were closed and tourism, usually at its height during the Independence holiday, was virtually non-existent. At presstime, hundreds of fires were burning throughout northern and eastern Florida. Central Florida, including the Orlando area, was largely unaffected by the blazes.
