Written by  MARK NORTON, CBCP Monday, 13 January 2014 22:50

As we reflect on the anniversary of Hurricane Sandy, its impacts are still present with us. Superstorm Sandy will never be forgotten since leaving people devastated, but has it left us stronger? Initially, the toll of Sandy was measured with these staggering statistics: $25 billion – This is the estimated value of the lost business activity as a result of Sandy, according to financial analysis firm IHS Global Insight. 8,100,000 homes that lost power – The outages affected people in 17 states and as far west as Michigan. 1 percent – Jersey Central Power & Light customers who remained without power the evening before Thanksgiving, according to the company. Between Oct. 28 and Nov. 12, employees worked 16-hour shifts to respond to 1.3 million reported power outages. 10,000 phone calls – This number of calls was received by True Value Hardware in Hackensack, N.J., from people hoping to buy generators in the days before Sandy
