What is the current state of your Business Continuity Planning (BCP) program? What are its major gaps? Does its current maturity level match the requirements of your organization today? Tomorrow? What are management’s expectations? What are the evolutions that need to be accomplished over time to heighten its sophistication and maturity?

The Current State Assessment (CSA) serves as an objective means of measuring the effectiveness and maturity level of the BCP program over time. There are numerous benefits that the CSA provides including key questions regarding your BCP Program:

  • What level of maturity does the organization currently possess in the aspects of business resumption, disaster recovery and as an enterprise?
  • What is the target level of BCP Maturity we must achieve in business resumption, disaster recovery and as an enterprise in order to meet our corporate requirements?
  • What are the major gaps and exposures that exist in the program?
  • What evolutions must we achieve over time to get to our target maturity level in business resumption, disaster recovery and as an enterprise?

The CSA process interviews key personnel and reviews appropriate policies, plans and strategies to determine preparedness levels, identify gaps, and document an appropriate action plan/roadmap to achieve the level of sophistication and maturity required by the organization. The CSA questionnaire scores business resumption, disaster recovery and enterprise capabilities based on the following areas:

  • Governance
  • Project Management
  • Policies & Standards
  • Impact Analysis
  • Risk & Threat Assessment
  • Change Management
  • Escalation & Notification
  • Data Backup & Offsite Storage
  • Recovery Strategies
  • Event Management
  • Recovery Plans
  • Planned Growth

The resultant output of CSA interviews and reviews yields a score that places business resumption, disaster recovery and the enterprise elements in one of six maturity levels:

  • Maturity Levels Zero through Two represent organizations that have not yet implemented the basic infrastructure to launch a sustainable enterprise BCP Program.
  • Maturity Levels Three through Five represent the evolutionary path of a maturing BCP Program.

Based on the resulting maturity level of each component, an Action Plan and Roadmap outlining the tasks to raise the sophistication and maturity of each element of the program over time is documented. Additionally, the CSA permits you to calculate a predicted maturity level score based on how aggressive the implementation of the Action Plans and Roadmap will occur over a period of time (e.g., 3 months, 6 months, etc.). The CSA is designed to be used as a performance metric to measure current and future BCP program maturity on a regular basis in turn providing management with a realistic picture of program capabilities.

In conclusion, if you need to determine the Current State of your BCP program, this webinar is for you. You will be taught how to perform the CSA process and evaluate the current state of your BCP program. Additionally, we will cover the process of developing an Action Plan and Roadmap to heighten the sophistication and maturity of your program over time.
