NIMS ICS for Business & Industry

Businesses have heavy responsibilities for responding to emergencies and critical incidents.  The National Incident Management System (NIMS) Incident Command System (ICS) was designed primarily for use in public sector emergency response and disaster recovery organizations.  Dr. Tom Phelan has done considerable work to adapt NIMS ICS for the private sector.  Companies, colleges, and non-profit organizations have all received NIMS ICS training and plan designs from Dr. Phelan.  This system has provided the crisis management team structure to keep executives informed and to facilitate their decisions.  Dr. Phelan has presented training to corporate executives, college administrators, and not-for-profit leaders.  This webinar will focus on how to structure NIMS ICS for any size private sector organization.

Items to be discussed:

  • What is NIMS ICS?
  • How can NIMS ICS improve an organization’s critical incident response?
  • What positions are needed for NIMS ICS?
  • How does a Crisis Management Team function using NIMS ICS?
  • What are the advantages for business and industry?
  • How will a private sector NIMS ICS structure improve relations with public emergency responders?
  • What would it cost to build a NIMS ICS compliant Crisis Management Team?

Dr. Tom Phelan, president, Strategic Teaching Associates, Inc., has presented NIMS ICS for Business & Industry at several DRJ conferences as a PPBI course.  He teaches Emergency Management at three colleges, and has presented in Canada, Sri Lanka, Singapore, & U.K.  In addition, Dr. Tom has presented to various corporations involved in media, health care, finance, and distribution.  He is a Founding Member of the Department of Homeland Security, a member of IAEM, a member of PPBI, and on the editorial advisory boards for Disaster Recovery Journal and Disaster Management Canada.
