From The Presidents Desk: Say Goodbye To 2008

Written by  Bob Arnold Tuesday, 06 January 2009 12:05

It is hard to believe another year has passed. It is time to say goodbye to 2008 and welcome 2009. This past year has been a very busy one for the business continuity industry. As always, disaster after disaster made the headlines. We have provided coverage of many of them through our magazine, Web site and newsletters. I hope your business remained safe and sound throughout the past year.

"Appeared in DRJ's Winter 2009 Issue"

For many, 2008 was a struggle, with the high fuel prices in the first half of the year and then a downturn in the economy in the second half. I know many of us are looking for a better year ahead.

I hope 2009 will bring good things to everyone in the business continuity industry. We at DRJ are looking forward to another great year of providing you with the best information available through our magazine and our conferences.

The next conference is Spring World 2009 in Orlando, Fla, March 29-April 1. We have a stellar line-up waiting to address the issues that matter most to all of us.

As we start the new year, I want to focus on a few positives. Our industry has grown so much since the turn of the century. The changes in technology, awareness, recovery methods and services are staggering to think about.

In 2009, we will face new challenges, but we also have a lot to be thankful for. Our industry is stronger than it has ever been. Even with budget cuts and a lean economy, we are still far ahead of where many thought we would be at this point.

Businesses of all sizes now realize the importance of business continuity and no longer look at it as an expenditure but as a necessity. Several sectors of the industry are thriving, proving that even in lean times business continuity services and products can be in high demand.

Subscriptions to DRJ are at an all-time high, a good indication of the number of planners and executives who take their jobs seriously and want to remain educated and aware. Our conference attendance has grown steadily, reflecting continual growth in the industry.

We want this trend to continue and are doing all we can to help the industry grow, even in a slow economy. We look forward to working with you in 2009! Look for the positives in your organization and help us continue to strengthen the industry!

See you in Orlando!
