Fall2018 logo2PHOENIX, Ariz. – Disaster Recovery Journal accomplished a feat it hadn’t seen in 10 years, with overwhelming success at the business continuity industry’s premier event.

“Paid attendance was up 17 percent from last year,” said DRJ President Bob Arnold of the exclusive DRJ Fall 2018 “Reimagining Business Resilience” conference at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort and Spa in Phoenix, Ariz., Sept. 23-26, 2018.

More than 900 attendees joined exhibitors and other booth staff for a total of 1,100 participants for DRJ’s 59th conference. This four-day event featured more than 65 sessions, a concurrent exhibit hall with more than 80 booths, and numerous networking events.

F18 3“This was the most comprehensive agenda we had put together in years,” said Arnold. “Our call for papers was extremely competitive and our attendees really enjoyed the program.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Heidi Hanna, of The Academy for Brain Health and Performance, drew rave reviews from many of the attendees.

F18 2“Very unique,” said Arnold of Dr. Hanna, “very different take on things than we usually see. So many people loved that session. She did very well. It had personal interest as well as business interest. That’s why it was such a hit.”

Attendees had numerous opportunities to gain essential knowledge and valuable resources from an impressive list of top industry experts. Through interactive sessions, resourceful workshops, and presentations with real-world scenarios, skilled practitioners offered the latest information to eager attendees.

Plenty of networking, interacting, and connecting with like-minded professionals took place at the four-day conference. Attendees were able to learn from the best in business continuity, gaining skills and knowledge needed to become confident in their practices within their own organizations.

“We’ve had so many people sharing their real-life experiences,” said Arnold. “It was great to see everyone connect and network with each other. We try to give attendees ample opportunities to learn, relax, and connect with their peers. We’ve been getting such great feedback.”

This year’s fall conference took place amid Hurricane Florence headlines. The hurricane’s destruction caused fatalities as it crashed ashore and turned many communities into rushing rivers.

“In the wake of Hurricane Florence, the subject of natural disasters was a much-discussed topic among our speakers, vendors, and attendees,” said Arnold. “We will plan on covering details as lessons are learned from this tragic event.”

Among the most-attended events at DRJ Fall 2018 was the senior advanced track session where the industry’s most advanced planners interacted with C-level personnel and other advanced practitioners.

F18 7DRJ Fall 2018 gold sponsor Strategic BCP | ResilienceONE hosted the Monday evening reception, which included food, drinks, dancing, and giveaways. Silver sponsors included eBRP, Firestorm, Fusion Risk Management, IBM, OnSolve, and Regus. Co-sponsors included Agility Recovery, Assurance Software, Avalution, BC in the Cloud, Everbridge, In Case of Crisis, Kingsbridge BCP, Konexus, NCC Group, Paragon Software Group, Quantivate, ReadiNow, RecoveryPlanner, Rentsys, RES-Q, Ripcord, RSA, SAP, and Virtual Corporation. Media sponsor was VoiceAmerica.

F18 8Arnold said he was very appreciative of all the sponsors and exhibitors who worked hard to help make the conference a success.

“Many thanks to our sponsors and exhibitors who provided unlimited networking possibilities for our attendees,” he said. “We were so thankful for all of the support from everyone who joined us for yet another great show in Phoenix.”

In addition to several individual vendor drawings, attendees won 22 of the newest and most-innovative technology items at the DRJ booth as part of the exhibit hall raffle. A grand attendance prize drawing was held Wednesday morning before the final general session. All three attendees won a similar technology prize and free pass to a future DRJ conference.
