Minneapolis, MN - Business Continuity Coordinator

Job Description: This position serves as a subject matter expert in the area of business continuity planning for the organization. Plans, coordinates and monitors projects and project groups from initiation through delivery and evaluation. Responsible for improving organizational resiliency to catastrophic business interruptions ensuring critical operations can continue or are resumed as quickly as possible. This is accomplished through the maintenance and testing of the organizational Business Continuity Plan, systematic hazard and vulnerability analysis, and implementation of mitigating strategies to include the development of actionable business recovery plans, standards, and guidelines; may also direct collaborative cross departmental teams during actual and simulated incidents; vendor contract management, and training of key personnel. Manages moderate to complex initiatives and projects.

Minimum Education:
Bachelor’s degree in emergency management, business continuity or related field preferred. Six years of relevant work experience or military experience may be substituted for the college degree.

Minimum Experience:
Three years’ experience in business continuity, emergency preparedness, crisis planning and/or disaster planning. Previous experience in writing business continuity, emergency preparedness, crisis response or comparable plans preferred.

Key Knowledge:
Possesses detailed knowledge and application of Business Continuity professional practices: Risk Evaluation and Control, Business Impact Analysis, Business Continuity Strategies, Emergency Response and Operations, Business Continuity Plans, Awareness and training programs, Business Continuity Plan exercises, Audit and maintenance, Crisis Communications. Certified as a DRII Certified Business Continuity Professional (CBCP) or as a Member of the Business Continuity Institute (MBCI) preferred.

Key Skills:
Excellent and project management skills, highly organized, strong negotiation and time management skills, customer service focused, team oriented; and advanced PC skills (Microsoft Office, Acrobat, SharePoint suite).

Key Abilities:
Capable of proactively scanning the operating environment to identify and address internal weaknesses and external threats to operations; able to work under pressure and act decisively; able to make decisions and problem solve; able to communicate effectively through both written and oral communication at all levels; able to recognize and use information about organizational climate and key individuals to influence with limited authority and promote collaboration to gain support of projects; able to clarify and simplify technical aspects and highly complex information to all levels of staff; considers ethical issues before decisions are made and seeks to achieve results that are in the best interest of the organization; takes ownership of tasks, projects, and relationships and follows through on obligations and promises; works collaboratively; finds common ground to solve problems.

Other Requirements:
Moderate travel required (approximately 3-4 trips per year, approximately 2-3 days per trip). This person may have to work unusual hours during an emergency situation and be willing to be on-call and accessible during evening, night, and weekend hours.
