People: The X Factor In Your Disaster Recovery Plan

Data protection, IT disaster recovery, and business continuity are not solely about processes, but also about an aspect often overlooked – people. As many processes become automated and with many organizations allowing – or requiring – employees to work remotely, the impact of humans in our day-to-day lives can get lost. Automating especially error-prone human activities can improve efficiency and accuracy, but there are many things we cannot solve with automation; people are and will continue to be a critical part of the equation. There are multiple stakeholders to consider. While senior management and board members are not involved in the day-to-day operations and the details of the duties performed by specific DR teams, they set overall budgetary decisions that can influence how much of the IT budget is spent on disaster readiness and recovery.
